Flexible and Fun: Learn Farsi / Persian with Joy :-)
Hello! My name is Tina and I enjoy tutoring! I am currently a Language and Literature tutor. I can also teach English for Farsi speakers. I speak Farsi, English, some Arabic, some French and a little bit of Urdu. I am a free thinker and creative teacher. I used to teach English to teenagers and adults back in Iran; I am still in touch with my former students, as I am interested in what they are doing and how far they have made progress with whatever I taught them. My students are also my fr...
English
After getting my MA in English Language and Literature, I started teaching English as a private tutor and in various language schools in Tehran, Iran. Since English is my second language, I fully understand how challenging it might be to learn. That is why I have designed a special course for Farsi/Dari/Arabic speakers who want to learn English. I can show you the connections between these languages, so you can learn the English vocabulary and grammar fast in a fun class!

literature
"Medicine is my lawful wife", Anton Chekhov once said, "and literature is my mistress." For me, literature has been both a job and a passion. I love literature not only because of its cathartic function, but also for the very fact that it provides so much insight into the soul of human-being -- histories, cultures, fears, hopes and fantasies... whatever makes us human in a nutshell. I will be delighted to teach you world literature. My main areas of interest are: Russian novelists, Middle-eastern authors and poets, European classic and contemporary poetry and prose.
psychology
As a teenager, I used to help my psychologist mom with writing articles and translating books almost every week. Later on, I studied Freud, Jung and Kristeva ("Psychotherapy" and related interdisciplinary areas) both in academic settings and on my own. Currently, I am developing skills in Psychological Astrology, which is a great tool for self-exploration. I would be delighted to teach you whatever I know, in case you are interested in getting to know yourself better and find a way to resolve your inner conflicts, as true psychology would help you live a more fulfilling, peaceful life.

In the beginning of my lessons, I was terribly nervous and didn’t know what to expect. Initially, my goal was to learn basic Farsi so that I could say a few phrases in my wedding vows and perhaps have some understanding of the language of my in laws. Not only was I able to say my vows within less than (12) one-hour sessions, but I also learned how to write the alphabet and reasonably sound out words to form phrases on my own. A few classes later and I am now conjugating verbs. Tina is a pure linguist at heart and has a bottomless depth of knowledge when it comes to languages, both formal and informal. She eased her way into lessons so that I was less anxious and taught at a pace that was not overwhelming, while recognizing my strengths and weaknesses so that I was able to build a firm foundation beyond saying my vows. She’s the perfect mix of fun personality and professionalism that makes learning a language a positive experience. I’m on Pacific Standard Time and I’ve had no difficulty arranging classes. In sum, her teaching style worked for me and I imagine she applies her techniques to whatever subject she offers to instruct. I highly recommend Tina as a tutor and I absolutely look forward to continuing my lessons with her.

Tina was calm and patient, yet we covered a good deal of material in a very effective manner. Highly recommended.
